First Night at New Job

I got the job. Thursday night was my first night as a delivery boy for Jimmy John's. It was very interesting.

I made sandwiches, sliced meat, mopped the floor, cleaned stuff, and delivered sandwiches to interesting people -- mostly at dorms and fraternity & sorority houses. I got tips! On my first delivery, I was offered a $14 tip (it was a $6 sandwich and she gave me a $20 and said keep the change), but I didn't accept it. It almost doesn't seem right that I'm getting paid at all, as I'm doing it just for fun.

It was very humbling -- not so much because of the kind of work, but because I have no skill at it. I'm just the new guy who doesn't know anything. I was asked to work the cash register but had no idea how to do it. After slicing a big pile of meat, I put it too close to the edge of the table and half of it later fell on the floor (don't worry, it didn't go into anyone's sandwiches). I cut the bread the wrong way, put stuff in the wrong place, and did a few other things wrong (and needed a lot of help!). But I'm learning.

Now that I have a little bit of a clue how to do my job, I'm really looking forward to next time (Thursday night).

At least you're doing something where you don't have to cook anything. That could be more disastrous. :-p

Saw your comment over at marcian blog.... I Thought I'd give you a look and am puzzled that your're meterologist making sandwiches in Norman.

I spent a year in Enid, Okla. a long time ago.
